Reading:
Your first grader is expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night. He / she can read to a family member, babysitter, Grandparent or sibling. Or your child can be read to. A balance between being read to and reading independently is fine as well! If reading becomes an issue at home, please reach out to me!
Math : Math work sheets brought home compliment that days Math lesson. Students are not bringing home math concepts that they have not been taught yet. Your first grader should be able to do these activities independently. They may need some assistance reading directions.Math worksheets are not required so you do not need to send them back in to me.If you do send them in, I will correct them and return them to your child. Math sheets are not required homework.
Fundations / Phonics: Prior to teaching each new unit, a packet will be sent home with your child. This packet will review skills taught in the upcoming unit and new trick words. Trick words must be memorized because they are 'tricky' and can not , for the most part, be sounded out. This is not required homework. If you send it in, I will correct it .
